On projective 3-space, instantons are defined as rank 2 vector bundles with \(H^0(E)=H^1(E(-2))=0\) and \(c_1(E)=0\). Then \(c_2(E)=n\) is called the charge of the instanton. These are well-studied, though many questions remain. In the present paper, the author generalizes this concept to Fano threefolds. Let \(Y\) be a Fano three fold of index 2 (that is \(K_Y\) has a square root, denoted by \(\mathcal{O}_Y(-1)\)). Then an instanton bundle on \(Y\) is a rank 2 stable bundle \(E\) with \(c_1(E)=0\) and \(H^1(E(-1))=0\) and as before, call \(c_2(E)\) to be the charge of the instanton. The author studies these in detail and obtains similar results as for the projective space, where the instantons can be retrieved from certain nice monads. Similarly, on projective space one has the Grauert-Mülich theorem, which associates the instanton with its jumping lines and retrieves the instanton from information on the set of jumping lines. These aspects are modified to suit the present case and the author proves several interesting results about instantons on Fano threefolds.
