The authors construct a stabilized Galerkin upwind finite element method in order to simulate three-dimensional steady incompressible Navier-Stokes flow. A mixed formulation is used which leads to unsymmetric and indefinite systems of linear equations. These are solved with the help of an element-by-element BICGSTAB iterative solver. Numerical results are presented and the performance is compared to a code which uses a direct solver for the linear equations.
