This paper is devoted to provide a proof for the integral \(K\)-theoretic Novikov conjecture for geometrically finite discrete subgroups of semisimple Lie groups of rank 1. The Novikov conjecture asserts that the assembly map is injective. The following is the main result. Theorem. Let \(X\) be any noncompact symmetric space of rank 1. If \(\Gamma\) is a torsion free geometrically finite group acting isometrically on \(X\), then the integral \(K\)-theoretic Novikov conjecture holds for \(\Gamma\). In Section 3 the author proves this result using the fact that for \(G\) being a connected semisimple Lie group of rank 1 and \(K\) a maximal compact subgroup the transitive \(G\)-space \(X=G/K\) with a \(G\)-Riemannian metric is a hyperbolic space and using also a result by Goldfarb [\textit{G. Carlsson} and \textit{B. Goldfarb}, Invent. Math. 157, No. 2, 405--418 (2004; Zbl 1071.19003); Addendum ibid. 159, No. 3, 677 (2005; Zbl 1071.19003)] on the Novikov conjecture for groups with finite asymptotic dimension. Some analogues may be found already in the literature as the \(L\)-theoretic one in [\textit{S. Ferry} and \textit{S. Weinberger}, Invent. Math. 105, No. 2, 401--414 (1991; Zbl 0744.57017)], the \(K\)-theoretic one for the family of discrete subgroups of Lie groups in [\textit{G. Carlsson}, Bounded \(K\)-theory and the assembly map in algebraic \(K\)-theory, in: Novikov conjectures, index theory and rigidity. Vol. 2. Cambridge University Press. Lond. Math. Soc. Lect. Note Ser. 227, 5--127 (1995; Zbl 0957.19001)] and for arithmetic groups in [\textit{B. Goldfarb}, K-Theory 11, No. 4, 319--372 (1997; Zbl 0881.19005)].
