In the paper under review, the authors provides a sharp upper bound on the number of isomorphism classes (over \({\mathbb C}\)) of CM elliptic curves defined over a number field of a fixed odd degree. More precisely, let \(\Sigma(L)\) denote the set of all CM \(j\)-invariants defined over \(L\), but not defined over \({\mathbb Q}\). It was shown in the main theorem (Theorem 1.4 (i.e. Theorem 5.8)) that for a number field \(L/{\mathbb Q}\) of odd degree \(N=p_1^{e_1}\cdots p_r^{e_r}\), the relation \(\#\Sigma(L)\leq 2\sum_{j=1}^r e_j~(\leq2\log_3(N),\) see Remark 1.5) holds. To prove Theorem 1.4 (Theorem 5.8), a close study was done for the special case when \(L={\mathbb Q}(j(E))\) is a number field obtained by adjoining the \(j\)-invariant of a single elliptic curve with complex multiplication, the result of which was Theorem 1.3 (stated and proven in Theorem 3.4 in more details). Finally, Example 5.9 shows that the bound in Theorem 1.4 (Theorem 5.8) is in fact sharp.
