Elimination strategies (Gauss, Neville strategies) over a basic index list I of elements are described. The concept of the determinant A(I,K) (K is another basic list) is discussed, the Schur complement is generalized. Its form and entries are given. Using this generalized Schur complement the determinant A(I,K) is written as a product of a determinant \(A(I^ 0,K^ 0)\) and the generalized Schur complement under some assumptions. Some determinental identities over \(I\times K\) and K are derived and proved which involve a generalization of Muir's law of extensible minors [cf. \textit{R. A. Brualdi} and \textit{H. Schneider}, ibid. 52-53, 769-791 (1983; Zbl 0533.15007)]. The extension principle for the determinental identities analyzes mutual relation of the lists of columns and rows. \textit{S. Karlin}'s identity [Total Positivity (1968; Zbl 0219.47030)] and Sylvester's identity are derived from the principle and generalized.
