In a previous paper [Inverse Probl. 20, No. 2, 553--563 (2004; Zbl 1057.65018)] the authors proposed a numerical scheme for computing the singular values (SV) designed in terms of the discrete Lotka-Volterra system with variable step-size (vdLV scheme). In the paper under review, a nonzero-shift version (mdLvs routine) is proposed so that the singular value computation becomes numerically stable. A suitable shift is determined such that the mdLVs variables converge to shifted SV. With respect to both the computational time and the numerical accuracy, the numerical tests show that the mdLVs routine is more accuerate and faster than the vdLV routine and than a credible routine for SV from ``Linear Algebra PACKage (LAPACK)''.
