It is shown that uniformly accurate estimates of all the eigenvalues of the regular Sturm-Liouville problem \(-y''+qy=\lambda y\), \(y(0)=y(\pi)=0\), can be obtained by combining a finite difference or finite element method for the lower eigenvalues with an asymptotic formula for the higher eigenvalues. The efficiency of this approach can be increased dramatically by refining the finite difference or finite element estimates using the technique of asymptotic correction. This correction technique has been the subject of much recent research (see the authors' first six references). For other work on computing uniformly accurate eigenvalues of Sturm- Liouville problems by combining a numerical method for the lower eigenvalues with an asymptotic estimate for the higher ones, see for example \textit{J. Paine} and \textit{F. de Hoog} [J. Austral. Math. Soc. Ser. B 21, 365-383 (1980; Zbl 0417.34046)].
