Summary: We give a sufficient structural condition on the Musielak functions for the Meyers-Serrin theorem [\textit{N. G. Meyers} and \textit{J. Serrin}, Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA 51, 1055--1056 (1964; Zbl 0123.30501)] to hold in Musielak spaces. We unify and extend some density results of smooth functions in Orlicz-Sobolev spaces as well as in variable exponent Sobolev spaces.
