This paper deals with the problem of a description of the asymptotic behavior of the number of lattice points contained in a finite number of polynomials. That is to say, let \(\mathbf{b_ i}=(\mathbf{b}_{1i},\dots,\mathbf{b}_{ni})\in\mathbb{N}^ n\), \(i=1,2,\dots,k\). Define \(P_ i(x_ 1,x_ 2,\dots,x_ n):=\sum_{j=1}^ nx_ j^{b_{ij}}\), \(i=1,2,\dots,k\) and \(c_{n_ 1,\dots,n_ k}:=\#\{m\in\mathbb{N}^ n; P_ i(m)=n_ i, i=1,\dots,k\}\). An asymptotic formula for \[ \sum_{\{(n_ 1,\ldots,n_ k); n_ j\leq x, j=1,\ldots,k\}} c_{n_ 1,\ldots,n_ k} \] is the problem. The author reduces the problem to the analysis of the Dirichlet series \[ D(s):=\sum_{(n_ 1,\ldots,n_ k)}c_{(n_ 1,\ldots,n_ k)}\exp(- \sum_{i=1}^ ks_ i\log(n_ i)) \] and analyzes it by using the \({\mathcal D}\)-module structure. The author developes a significant part of the foundation of this problem. This article represents a first step in the study of the asymptotics of general lattice point problem of ``geometric origin''. The incorporation of the functional equations from the theory of \({\mathcal D}\)-modules and the use of the Leray residue from several complex variables is both new and essential for the analysis of the multi-variable Dirichlet series.
