The authors completely classify the finite affine planes which admit a non-solvable rank 3 collineation group. More precisely, they obtain the following types of (translation) planes: (1) Desarguesian; (2) Hall; (3) Lüneburg-Tits; (4) irregular nearfield of order \(11^2\), \(29^2\) or \(59^2\); (5) Korchmáros of order 49; (6) Mason-Ostrom of order 49; (7) exceptional Walker of order 25.
