The paper describes how to use the ``Meat-Axe'' of \textit{R. Parker} [Computational group theory 1982, 267-274 (1984; Zbl 0555.20001)] to construct by computer two 28-dimensional matrix representations of the covering group \(2\cdot HS\) of the Higman-Sims group over the field of order 5. One set of two generating \(28\times 28\) matrices for \(2\cdot HS\) is listed in the paper. The matrices were needed to find the 5-modular characters of \(2\cdot HS\) and \(2\cdot HS:2\) (see the following review Zbl 0783.20011).
