    Let \(X\) be a continuum. The topological cone over \(X\) is denoted by Cone\((X)\). Let \(C(X)\) be the hyperspace of subcontinua of \(X\). The continuum \(X\) has the cone=hyperspace property if there exists a homeomorphism \(h: C(X) \rightarrow \) Cone\((X)\) such that \(h(X) = \) vertex of (Cone\((X)\)) and \(h(\{x\})=(x,0)\) for each \(x \in X\). Given a nonempty subset \(\mathcal C\) of \(C(X)\), a selection for \(\mathcal C\) is a continuous function \(s: {\mathcal C} \rightarrow X\) such that \(s(A) \in A\) for each \(A \in {\mathcal C}\). It is proved that for any finite-dimensional continuum \(X\) the following conditions are equivalent: (a) \(X\) has the cone=hyperspace property, (b) there is a selection \(s: C(X) \smallsetminus \{X\} \rightarrow X\) such that, for every Whitney level \(\mathcal A\) for \(C(X)\), \(s |{\mathcal A}: {\mathcal A} \rightarrow X\) is a homeomorphism. Moreover, the author answers questions raised by \textit{A. M. Dilks} and \textit{J. T. Rogers jun.} [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 83, 633-640 (1981; Zbl 0487.54009)] concerning the relationship between the cone=hyperspace property and the following properties: Whitney stable, the covering property, the property of Kelley.
