The author considers the concepts of tensor product of the spaces \(BV_{X_1},\dots,BV_{X_s} \) of functions of bounded variation and introduces reasonable crossnorms. It is shown that in general the tensor product of the spaces \(BV_{X_1},\dots,BV_{X_s}\) is not dense in the space \(BV_{X_1\times\dots\times X_s}\), equipped with the usual \(BV\) norm. It is given an approximation result for functions of \(BV_{X}\) by tensor functions, similar to a well-known approximation theorem for functions of \(BV_{X}\) by smooth functions. Using tensor product norms so-called symmetrized tensor product spaces are obtained. It is shown that for reasonable crossnorms, the symmetrized tensor products are spaces larger than the closure of \(BV_X^\otimes\) with respect the \(BV\)-norm. For the case of the greatest reasonable crossnorm, the symmetrized tensor product is a subspace of the space \(BV_X\).
