Let a multivariate factorable function, \(f\), over a box \(X\) be given. Then a generalized interval is constructed that includes the range of \(f\) over \(X\). The computation of the generalized interval is recursive corresponding to the recursive definition of \(f\). Hence, \(f\) can even have discontinuities if the basis functions of \(f\) have discontinuities.
