This paper deals with the numerical solution of the problem \[ u_t(x, t)= c\Delta u(x,t),\quad (x,t)\in D\times (0,T],\tag{1} \] \[ u(x,t)= F(x,t),\;(x,t)\in\Gamma\times [0,T], \] \[ u(x, t)\overset{|x|\to \infty}{\longrightarrow} 0,\quad t\in [0,T],\quad u(x,0)= 0,\quad x\in D, \] where \(D\subset \mathbb{R}^2\) is an unbounded domain and the boundary \(\Gamma:=\partial D\) is a polygon. The author studies the time discretization of (1) and the convergence of the Rothe method under sufficiently strong assumptions on \(F\). To solve the obtained sequence of boundary value problems a boundary integral method is used. Also, the stability of the collocation method for the single layer approach is proved. To illustrate the convergence results a numerical example is presented.
