The authors first prove that an analytical quasi-periodic \(\text{SL}(2,\mathbb{R})\) cocycle close to constant can be embedded as a Poincaré map of an analytical quasi-periodic linear system which is also close to a constant. Having this as a tool, from the known result on the local almost reducibility for analytical quasi-periodic linear systems, the local almost reducibility for analytical quasi-periodic cocycles is obtained, and, from the known result on global reducibility for analytical quasi-periodic linear systems, the corresponding global reducibility for analytical quasi-periodic cocycles is also obtained. Furthermore, the authors apply this tool to study the point spectrum of the long-range quasi-periodic Mathieu operator and give a positive answer to a question proposed by \textit{A. Avila} et al. [Geom. Funct. Anal. 21, No. 5, 1001--1019 (2011; Zbl 1277.37089)].
