\textit{H. A. Hayden} [Proceedings L. M. S. (2) 34, 27--50 (1932; JFM 58.0767.01)] introduced the notion of a semi-symmetric metric connection on a Riemannian manifold. One of the basic problems in submanifolds theory is to find simple relationships between the extrinsic and intrinsic invariants of submanifolds. In this direction, \textit{B. Y. Chen} [Arch. Math. 60, No.~6, 568--578 (1993; Zbl 0811.53060)] established some inequalities, well-known as Chen inequalities. In this paper, the authors establish the Chen inequalities for submanifolds of real space forms endowed with a semi-symmetric connection. More exactly, some relations are proved between the mean curvature associated with the semi-symmetric metric connection, scalar and sectional curvature, Ricci curvature and the sectional curvature of the ambient space.
