The author aims to give a geometric formulation of solid mechanics as mechanics of continuous media, utilizing the language of infinite-dimensional manifolds, following the well-known work by \textit{D. G. Ebin} and \textit{J. Marsden} [Ann. Math. (2) 92, 102--163 (1970; Zbl 0211.57401)] and emphasized later by Marsden and his co-workers.
