Let \(T\) be a Lie triple system. Denote by \([TT.]\) the linear span of the left multiplication maps \([xy.]:z\mapsto [xyz]\), and let \(L(T)=[TT.]\oplus T\) be the standard enveloping Lie algebra of \(T\). A maximal abelian subalgebra \(H\) of \(L(T)\) whose elements act diagonally on \(T\) gives rise to a root decomposition \(T=T_0\oplus(\oplus_{\alpha\in\Lambda^1}T_\alpha)\). The set \(\Lambda^1\) is called a root system of \(T\). The paper under review continues some previous work by the same authors [see also Part I, the first author, Proc. Indian Acad. Sci., Math. Sci. 119, No. 2, 165--177 (2009; Zbl 1193.17003)] and provides some sufficient conditions on these root systems which force the Lie triple system \(T\) to be a direct sum of simple ones.
