Efficiency and robustness of ordinary and penalized minimum power divergence estimators of log-linear model parameters are compared on \(2\times 2\) contingency tables via simulations. The penalty term is aimed to decrease the impact of the empty cells in the contingency tables. The authors' conclusion is that the need of penalization depends on both the sample size and the main effects.
