Let \(G\) denote a connected, reductive, smooth group scheme defined over \(\mathbb F_p\) with Borel subgroup \(B\) and torus \(T\). In this work, the authors establish several results about the stable Auslander-Reiten quiver for the \(r\)-th Frobenius kernel \(G_r\) of \(G\) for arbitrary \(r\). Previous work of the authors [Math. Ann. 322, No. 4, 701-743 (2002; Zbl 1009.16017)] dealt with the case when \(r=1\). Of particular interest are the baby Verma modules for \(G_r\) (obtained by coinducing a one-dimensional module from \(B_r\) to \(G_r\)). To study the Auslander-Reiten quiver, they make use of cohomological support varieties for which they obtain results of independent interest. A key strategy that is used at times is working with \(G_rT\)-modules and then restricting back to \(G_r\)-modules. It is shown that a simple \(G_r\)-module is either projective or belongs to an Auslander-Reiten component of type \(\widetilde A_{12}\) or \(A_\infty\). In the case of \(A_\infty\), it is further shown that the middle term of the almost split sequence terminating in the simple module is indecomposable. An analogous result holds for baby Verma modules except that in the non-projective case, the component must have type \(A_\infty\). The authors introduce the notion of the depth of a weight based on the \(p^r\)-regularity of the weight. With this notion, they are able to reduce certain problems for a given baby Verma module to one defined by a weight of smaller depth. For example, it is shown that the support variety of a baby Verma module over \(G_r\) (\(r\geq 2\)) is isomorphic to that of a different baby Verma module defined by a weight of depth one over a specified \(G_s\) with \(s<r\). Similarly, questions about the Auslander-Reiten component of a baby Verma module can be reduced to one defined by a weight of depth one. These results follow in part from a filtration for baby Verma modules (in the \(G_rT\)-module category), a general relationship for support varieties involving tensoring a module by a Steinberg module, and an isomorphism in the \(G_rT\)-module category of a baby Verma module with the tensor product of the twist of another baby Verma module and a Steinberg module. Lastly, their results are applied to study support varieties and Auslander-Reiten components for baby Verma modules having complexity 2. In particular, assuming that \(p\geq 7\), it is shown that the support varieties are equidimensional.
