In the present study, a convenient formulation was employed to predict the surface recession and the profile of net surface heat flux at the surface of ablative material in working condition without the need for any knowledge about flowfield around the body. The conjugate gradient method is proposed to estimate the unknown surface recession and time-varying net surface heat flux for these kinds of problems. The first order Tikhonov regularization is employed to stabilize the inverse solution. The proposed method is very effective in estimation of time-dependent heat flux component.
