In the paper under review, the author proves the existence of a sequence \((n_k)_{k \geq 1}\) of positive integers satisfying \(1 \leq n_{k+1} - n_k \leq G(k)\) (for arbitrary \(G(k) \nearrow \infty\)) for which the discrepancy of \((n_k x)_{k \geq 1}\) satisfies the law of the iterated logarithm in exactly the same form as a sequence of i.i.d. uniformly distributed random variables (the so-called Chung-Smirnov law of the iterated logarithm). This new result complements a corresponding central limit theorem due to \textit{I. Berkes} [Z. Wahrscheinlichkeitstheor. Verw. Geb. 47, 157--161 (1979; Zbl 0499.60019)]. The existence of the desired sequence is proved by defining a class of sequences in a randomized way, and showing that they almost surely have the requested properties.
