Interpolating polynomial splines in one dimension and of degree three are considered. It is desirable to construct splines which are \(k\)-times monotone when \(k\)-monotone data are given that are being interpolated (this is usually called a ``shape-preserving'' property). Such a solution is constructed for \(k\) up to four.
