Let \(M_n\) be the algebra of all \(n\times n\) complex matrices. For any \(T\in M_n\) and any vector \(x\in{\mathbb C}^n\), denote by \(\sigma_T(x)\) and \(r_T(x)\) the the local spectrum and the local spectral radius of \(T\) at \(x\), respectively. In the paper under review, the author characterizes all linear maps \(\phi\) on \(M_n\) satisfying the property that, for each \(T\in M_n\), there exists a nonzero \(x_T\in{\mathbb C}^n\) depending on \(T\) such that \(\sigma_{\phi(T)}(x_T)=\sigma_T(x_T)\) (resp., \(r_{\phi(T)}(x_T)=r_T(x_T)\)). In addition, the author gives an example showing that the results for finite-dimensional case is no longer true for the infinite-dimensional setting.
