In the case of Lipschitz domains there is an extensive literature concerning the solution of the regularity, Neumann, and Dirichlet problems by means of layer potentials for classical linear partial differential equations. More recently layer potential solutions to these problems have been studied for the Laplace equation in domains beyond Lipschitz domains (see for example [\textit{S. Hofmann} et al., Int. Math. Res. Not. 2010, No. 14, 2567--2865 (2010; Zbl 1221.31010)]) and in Lipschitz domains with boundary data in certain Besov spaces (see for example [\textit{S. Mayboroda} and \textit{M. Mitrea}, Ann. Mat. Pura Appl. (4) 185, No. 2, 155--187 (2006; Zbl 1232.35050)]). In the paper under review the authors consider the more general setting of bounded domains with \(d\)-Ahlfors boundary. We explain this notion. Let \(\Omega\subset \mathbb{R}^n\) be an open set with boundary \(\partial\Omega\). Then \(\partial\Omega\) is a bounded \(d=(d_1,\ldots,d_N)\)-Ahlfors regular set if the following hold. (a) \(\partial \Omega=\bigcup_{i=1}^N E_i\), where \(E_1,\ldots,E_N\subset \mathbb{R}^n\) are compact. (b) There is an \(r_1>1\) with \(d(E_i,E_j)>r_1\) whenever \(i\neq j\) (where \(d(\cdot,\cdot)\) denotes the Euclidean distance between subsets of \(\mathbb{R}^n\)). (c) There exist \(c_1<1\leq c_2\) and \(d_1,\ldots,d_N\) such that \(n-2<d_i<n\) and \[ c_1r^{d_i}\leq H^{d_i}(B(x,r)\cap E_i)\leq c_2r^{d_i} \] whenever \(x\in E_i\) and \(0<r<r_1\) (where \(H^k(\cdot)\) denotes the Hausdorff \(k\)-measure on \(\mathbb{R}^n\)). It is shown that the singular layer potential is invertible as a mapping between certain Besov spaces. Imposing more conditions on the domains the same is obtained for the double layer potential. Thus layer potential solutions to the regularity, Neumann, and Dirichlet problems with boundary data in these spaces are obtained.
