In recent years, the study of self-dual group codes has attracted attention in the Coding Theory. Let \(F\) be a finite field and \(G\) be a finite group. Group codes are connected to left ideals of the group algebra \(FG\) (submodules of the left regular module \(FG\)). As a natural generalization of group codes, so called permutation codes are introduced (in a previous work of the authors). In this work, the symmetric semisimple modules are characterized and some applications to permutation codes are exhibited. First, the authors classify the bilinear metrics on simple \(FG\)-modules and divide the self-dual simple modules into 4 types. After that, they determine all indecomposable symmetric semisimple modules and derive criteria for hyperbolic symmetric semisimple modules. Finally, the authors turn to permutation codes (especially the case of odd order) and exhibit some applications.
