The author proves that the existence of \(B\)-spline bases is equivalent to existence of blossoms, in \(W\)-spline spaces with sections in arbitrary extended Chebyshev spaces and with connections defined by arbitrary lower triangular matrices with positive diagonal elements. The result enable the proof that existence of blossoms ensure that the unique \(B\)-spline basis on a closed bounded interval is the optimal totally positive basis.
