The authors use a simple formula for the differential of the Hasimoto transformation \(\gamma \to \psi =\kappa \exp [i\int^{s}_{\alpha}\tau du]\) where \(\gamma\) is the evolution of a twisted space curve \(\gamma\) with its curvature \(\kappa\). They prove that this transforms \(\gamma\) into the modified nonlinear Schrödinger equation for \(\psi\) : \(- i\psi_ t=2\psi ''+| \psi |^ 2\psi +A(t)\psi\) where A(t) is some real time-dependent function. The fact that a special structure exists when W is one of the infinite family of Hamiltonian vector fields commuting with the filament flow seems to play an important role in the author's study of geometry of the filament equation.
