Let A and B be linear continuous operators from an ordered Banach space D to another one E, B positive. We study the set of values \(\lambda\) such that \(\lambda B-A\) has a positive inverse. Under pretty general assumptions, this set is an interval. Under one of them, it is proved that if three operators satisfy the inequalities \(A\leq B\leq C\) and A and C have positive inverses, B has one as well. Classical results concerning the existence of a positive eigenvector and, under assumption of irreducibility, simplicity of the associated eigenvalue, are generalized.
