This novel paper concerns the two dimensional dynamic contact problem for a moving solid die with a layer of an ideal incompressible liquid of finite depth. The pressure from the die on the hydraulic foundation is transmitted through a thin covering. The die moves along the covering at a constant speed without friction. This type of problem arises when studying processes produced in the dynamic effects of solids on the surface of an ice cover.
