Consider a system of differential equations (1) \(dx/dt=F(x)\), \(F\in C^ 1({\mathbb{R}}^ n)\). The author uses the theorem of \textit{F. R. Marotto} [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 63, 199-223 (1978; Zbl 0381.58004)] concerning snap- back repellors to prove the following theorem: Suppose that the system (1) has two rest points p and q such that \(\det(\partial F/\partial x)(p)\neq 0,\quad \det(\partial F/\partial x)(q)\neq 0.\) Then there exists \(c>0\) such that for any \(s>c\) the difference equation \(x_{k+1}=x_ k+s F(x_ k)\) is chaotic. For scalar differential equations an analogous result was earlier established by \textit{M. Yamaguti} and \textit{H. Matano} [Proc. Japan Acad., Ser. A 55, 78-80 (1979; Zbl 0434.39003)].
