In this paper, the author shows the irreducibility of the divisor of zeroes of any parabolic form of weight \(\leq 8\) belonging to the full Siegel modular group of degree 4, by proving that all effective divisors on the Siegel modular varieties of degree \(\geq 3\) are the divisors of Siegel modular forms. The result provides a simplification of Igusa's solution of the Schottky problem in degree 4 [\textit{J. Igusa}, J. Fac. Sci., Univ. Tokyo, Sect. I A 28, 531-545 (1981; Zbl 0501.14026)]. For further work on irreducibility in higher degrees, see the recent work of \textit{B. van Geemen} [Invent. Math. 78, 329-349 (1984)].
