The author gives a new proof of a theorem of \textit{G. Mauceri} [Ann. Inst. Fourier 31, No.4, 115-140 (1981; Zbl 0455.35039)] concerning the boundedness of the Riesz means associated with the sublaplacian on the Heisenberg group \(H^ n\). The main result can be stated as follows: for \(1\leq p\leq 2,\alpha >\alpha (p)=(2n+1)[(1/p)-(1/2)],\| S^{\alpha}_ Rf\|_{L^ p(H^ n)}\leq c\| f\|_{L^ p(H^ n)}\).
