The paper is concerned with \(q\)-Bernstein polynomials, which are generalizations of the classical Bernstein polynomials in the framework of the \(q\)-calculus. Special attention is paid to the case \(q\in(0,1)\), when the sequence of \(q\)-Bernstein operators converges to a positive shape-preserving linear operator \(B_{\infty,q}\) on \(C[0,1]\),different from the identity operator. The approximation properties of \(B_{\infty,q}\) have been studied in several papers. The author investigates the impact of \(B_{\infty,q}\) on the analytic properties of functions. Generally speaking, it improves these properties. The obtained results are applied to finding eigenfunctions of \(B_{\infty,q}\). The complete description of the spectrum and eigenfunctions [initiated by the author in J. Approximation Theory 123, 232--255 (2003; Zbl 1093.41013)] remains an open problem.
