Consider the boundary value problem \[ -(|u'|^{p-2} u')'=\lambda f(u),\quad u(0)= 0,\;u(1)+\alpha u'(1)= 0, \] where \(p\in (1,2]\), \(\alpha\geq 0\), \(\lambda\geq 0\) and \(f: \mathbb{R}_+\to \mathbb{R}_+\) is sufficiently smooth. Using the quadrature method, the authors prove the existence of multiple positive solutions for \(\lambda\in (0,\lambda^*)\) and \(\alpha\geq 0\) provided \(f\) is bounded from below by a positive constant and satisfies \(\lim_{s\to+\infty} {f(s)\over s^{p-1}}= +\infty\). For \(\alpha= 0\), the exact number of solutions is determined.
