The author presents a new formulation concerning the theory of extrapolation spaces. The theory is used in order to deduce a theorem on the resolvent of the sum of a generator of a semigroup and a Hille-Yosida operator. The author applies his theory to study existence and uniqueness properties, and also to obtain regularity results for an abstract equation.
