This paper is a continuation of the work of the last three authors with \textit{U. Karimov} [Topology Appl. 153, 284--293 (2005; Zbl 1086.54020)] where examples of planar two-dimensional continua that are not homotopy equivalent to any one-dimensional set were presented. The present authors extend investigations from the planar case to the higher-dimensional case. Two \(n\)-dimensional subcontinua of \(\mathbb{R}^n\) are constructed using the same ideas as in [loc. cit.]: one Peano continuum, and one cellular continuum with trivial fundamental group. Their structure is fractal-like. Both of them -- have (and have everywhere) homotopy dimension \(n\), -- each of their boundary points is homotopically fixed, -- there does not exist any deformation retraction onto a proper subset, -- any map of these spaces into themselves which is homotopic to the identity, is onto.
