The author studies the stability of a linear autonomous nonconservative system with an even number of degrees of freedom, taking into account the influence of dissipative and nonconservative positional forces on gyroscopic stabilization. As an illustrative example, the author analyzes the stability of Hauger's gyropendulum under the action of a follower torque.
