Let \(X\) be a real Banach space, and assume that \(E \subset X\) is bounded. The set \(E\) is said to be \textit{remotal} from a point \(x \in X\) if there exists a point \(e_0 \in E\) such that \(\sup \{ ||x-e|| : e \in E\}=||x-e_0||\). The main result of this paper is that every infinite dimensional Banach space has a bounded and convex set that is not remotal. This settles a problem raised by \textit{M. Sababheh} and \textit{R. Khalil} [Numer. Funct. Anal. Optim. 29, No. 9-10, 1166--1170 (2008; Zbl 1166.46006)].
