Let \(E\) and \(F\) be complex locally convex spaces. The space of continuous \(n\)-homogeneous polynomials from \(E\) to \(F\) is denoted by \(P(^nE;F)\). In \(P(^nE;F)\) the standard topologies \(\tau_0\) (compact-open topology) and \(\tau_b\) (topology of uniform convergence on the bounded subsets of \(E\)) are considered. As usual, the subspace of \(P(^nE;F)\) composed by the polynomials that are uniformly weakly continuous on the bounded subsets of \(E\) is represented by \(P_{wu}(^nE;F)\); the subspace of finite type \(n\)-homogeneous polynomials is denoted by \(P_f(^nE;F)\). The space of holomorphic mappings from \(E\) to \(F\) that are bounded on the bounded subsets of \(E\) is denoted by \(H_b(E;F)\); the space of holomorphic mappings from \(E\) to \(F\) that are uniformly weakly continuous on the bounded subsets of \(E\) is represented by \(H_{wu}(E,F)\). The main goal of the paper is to study the density of \(P_f(^nE;F)\) in \(P(^nE;F)\) in connection with the reflexivity of \([P(^nE;F),\tau_b]\) and the reflexivity of \(H_b(E;F)\) in the case in which \(E\) is a countable direct sum of Banach spaces and \(F\) is a Banach space. Among several interesting results, the authors prove the following result: Let \(E=\bigoplus_{i=1}^\infty E_i\), where \(E_i\) is a reflexive complex Banach space with the approximation property for every \(i\in\mathbb N\) and let \(F\) be a reflexive complex Banach space. For \(n\in\mathbb N\), the following conditions are equivalent: (1) \([P(^nE,F),\tau_0]'=[P(^nE,F),\tau_b]'\). (2) \([P(^nE,F),\tau_b]\) is reflexive. (3) \(P_{wu}(^nE,F)=P(^nE,F)\). (4) \(\overline{P_f(^nE,F)}=P(^nE,F)\). Denoting by \(\tau_b\) the topology (on \(H_b(E;F)\)) of the uniform convergence on the bounded subsets of \(E\), under the hypothesis of the previous theorem, it is also shown that the following assertions are equivalent: (1) \([H_b(E,F),\tau_b]\) is reflexive. (2) \(H_b(E,F)=H_{wu}(E,F)\). (3) \(P_{wu}(^n,F)=P(^nE,F)\) for all \(n\in\mathbb N\). (4) \([P(^nE,F),\tau_b]\) is reflexive for all \(n\in\mathbb N\).
