The author investigates the Dirichlet boundary value problem of the following three species prey-predator equations with diffusion \[ \Delta u+u[a+f_ 1(u,v,w)]=0,\quad \Delta v+v[b+f_ 2(u,v,w)]=0,\quad \Delta w+w[c+f_ 3(u,v,w)]=0 \] in a bounded domain \(D\subseteq {\mathbb{R}}^ n\), where \(\Delta\) denotes the Laplace operator and the \(f_ i\) denote generalized Volterra-Lotka interactions. Four types of interactions are considered, modeling (i) a food chain, (ii) two predators with one prey, (iii) one predator and two preys, and (iv) a mutualistic loop. In these cases comparison theorems are proved and upper and lower solutions are constructed. Finally, for special cases applications are given concerning uniqueness of solutions and stability results for the related parabolic problem.
