The authors consider the propagation of acceleration waves through an anisotropic mixture of two nonlinear elastic solids kept at the same temperaure. The normal speeds are shown to be square roots of an eigenvalue problem involving \(6\times 6\) positive definite symmetric matrices. It is shown that normal speed is homogeneous but anisotropic. A system of ordinary nonlinear differential equations is obtained to describe the growth of discontinuities along the rays. It is remarked that the results for linear elastic solids follow as a special case.
