(From author's summary). The three-dimensional motion of a viscoelastic liquid in 3-space is studied, using the constitutive law suggested by Kaye, and Bernstein, Kearsley and Zapas. An existence and uniqueness result for solutions of the initial value problem for small times is proved, using Kato's theory of quasilinear hyperbolic equations.
