    In a previous paper [Analysis 6, 1-24 (1986; Zbl 0577.10038) (Preprint 1980)] it was shown that if f is an additive function with \[ | f| ^{\alpha}\in {\mathcal L}^ 1:=\{g: {\mathbb{N}}\to {\mathbb{C}};\sup _{x\geq 1}x^{-1}\sum _{n\leq x}| g(n)| <\infty \} \] for some \(\alpha >0\), then \(| f| ^{\alpha}\) is uniformly summable, i.e. \[ \lim _{K\to \infty}\sup _{x\geq 1}x^{-1}\sum _{n\leq x;\quad | f(n)| ^{\alpha}\geq K}| f(n)| =0. \] This result is generalized by the following Theorem. Let \(f: {\mathbb{N}}\to {\mathbb{C}}\) be additive, and let \(\phi\) : \({\mathbb{R}}^ +\to {\mathbb{R}}^ +\) be a function with \(\phi\) (x)\(\nearrow \infty\) as \(x\nearrow \infty\). Further, assume that \(\phi (x+y)\ll \phi (x)\phi (y)\) for x,y\(\geq 1\). Then the following conditions are equivalent. \((i)\quad \phi \circ | f| \in {\mathcal L}^ 1.\) (ii) The series \(\sum _{p;\quad | f(p)| \leq 1}| f(p)| ^ 2/p\), \(\sum _{p^ m;\quad | f(p^ m)| >1}\phi (| f(p^ m)|)/p^ m\) converge and \(\sum _{p\leq x;\quad | f(p)| \leq 1}f(p)/p=O(1)\) as \(x\to \infty.\) (iii) \(\phi\) \(\circ | f|\) is uniformly summable.
