Pro-2-Demuškin groups of rank \({\aleph{}}_ 0\) as Galois groups of maximal 2-extensions of fields (Q1190816): Difference between revisions

The complete classification of the Galois groups described in the title is achieved. This complements some work of Labute and Serre and it represents a contribution to inverse Galois theory. Demuškin groups are quite significant because some of them can be represented as Galois groups of local fields or completions of fundamental groups of surfaces. Generic splitting fields of some products of quaternion algebras together with quadratic form theory and the work of Labute and Serre are the principal tools brought to bear on this problem. The methods used in this paper can also be applied in the construction of other fields with given properties.
