As compared to earlier work, a more elaborate discrete multiple scales analysis of the Zabusky-Kruskal discretization of the Korteweg-de Vries equation (KdV) is made, leading to a set of partial differential equations describing the modulations behaviour of a small harmonic wave modulated by a slowly varying envelope. The paper reports one type of spurious solution of the difference scheme, which occurs for certain choices of the parameters in KdV equation and for specific wave numbers of the carrier wave.
