Local and global Hopf bifurcations for functional differential equations are investigated using \textbf{S}\(^ 1\)-degree and bifurcation theory. The approach admits functionals with both unbounded delayed argument and bounded advanced argument. Under reasonable assumptions on the boundedness of the differential equation and regularity of the stationary points and centers, some interesting properties of the global solution branches are stated.
