Problems in optimal control of retarded differential systems lead to advanced differential operators. The situation becomes more complex for neutral and singular neutral control systems. This paper gives the computation of the adjoint generator of the infinitesimal generator \(A\) of a \(C_ 0\)-semigroup associated with a particular non-atomic neutral equation. The given generator is of the type \(D\varphi=\int^ 0_{- 1}\varphi(s)| s|^{-\alpha}ds\) with \(0<\alpha<1\). The construction of the adjoint generator \(A^*\) is particularly useful for discussing the approximations \(A^{N^*}\) obtained from approximations \(A^ N\) of the given generator.
