    The authors consider the problem \[ \Delta u+f(u)=0\quad in\quad {\mathbb{R}}_ 1<| x| <{\mathbb{R}}_ 0,\quad x\in {\mathbb{R}}^ N,\quad N\geq 3 \] with Dirichlet or mixed Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions. After a change of the variables the problem becomes \[ u''+t^{\alpha}f(u)=0,\quad t_ 0<t<t_ 1,\quad \alpha =2(1-N)/(N-2). \] They then study a generalisation of the last differential equation: \[ u''+F(t,u)=0\quad in\quad 0<t_ 0<t<t_ 1. \] Using shooting methods existence of positive solutions as well as some uniqueness results are proved.
